Today is International Epilepsy Day, a day about sharing awareness of epilepsy, what it is and how it can be treated. Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes seizures. Epilepsy can look different for everybody, it’s therefore important to choose what systems will best support you.

Our telecare service can be a useful tool to support someone living with epilepsy in several ways:

  • Seizure sensors – our convulsion monitors can be installed on someone’s bed to detect physical jerking movements during a seizure. When triggered, care givers in the home will be alerted through a pager of the situation. It can also connect to our control room for additional back up and support.
  • Fall alarms – our pendants include fall detection technology which can send an alert to our control room. Please note, this technology cannot detect falls accurately every time and must therefore only be used as an additional support tool and in certain circumstances – we can advise on this.
  • Home and Away service – our GPS location pendants can provide the location of someone during a seizure, which is especially useful if they are out and about or in an unfamiliar place. Please note, the button on the pendant would need to be pressed by themselves or someone else to raise the alert for help

Consulting with a healthcare professional can help determine the most appropriate features and options for the individual's situation. We can help with an assessment to advise the most suitable equipment, call 0300 999 2 999 to find out more or visit our complex needs page www.care-line.co.uk/services/complex-needs.aspx.
