A pendant alarm, or community alarm, usually includes a wearable pendant or wrist strap with a button. When a person presses the button, it triggers a call for help to a 24/7 control room - such as Herts Careline here in Hertfordshire.
Here's how it works:
- In the case of an emergency or need for help, the person presses the button on the pendant or wristband.
- The pendant is connected wirelessly to a base unit in home. When the button is pressed, it sends a signal to the base unit and makes a call to the control room.
- The alarm base unit contacts the control room through a cellular connection.
- Once the control room receives the alarm signal, trained operators speak to you, assess the situation and respond appropriately to get the right help to you.
- Depending on the situation, the call operators may alert the emergency services, or contact designated friends, family, or care givers to provide assistance to you.
Overall, pendant alarms offer an added sense of security and peace of mind for people who may require quick assistance during emergencies or if they experience health-related issues or falls at home.
