The temperature has dropped this week, so we want to make sure you’re staying warm to help you prevent cold-related illnesses. So, please make sure you:
  • Wearing layers of clothing traps body heat more effectively. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add an insulating layer like wool or fleece, and finish with a windproof and waterproof outer layer.
  • Invest in a good quality coat, gloves, a hat, and waterproof boots. These are essential for staying warm when you're outside.
  • Try to stay active, even with gentle activities like walking or housework if you’re able to.
  • Heat your home efficiently - use timers on your central heating to heat your home before you wake up and when you return if you're out during the day. Consider insulating your home to retain heat.
  • Consume hot meals and drinks to help raise your body temperature. Soups, stews, tea, and hot chocolate are great in winter.
  • Line your floor - wooden floors can be cold in winter, so rugs can help but be careful you don’t trip, make them secure. Also, keep blankets handy in living areas for extra warmth.
  • Ensure windows and doors are properly sealed to prevent cold draughts from entering.
  • Enjoy a hot water bottle or electric blanket - these are great for extra warmth in bed. Be sure to follow safety instructions, especially with electric blankets.
  • Stay dry - wet clothing significantly reduces your ability to stay warm. Make sure to change out of wet clothes as soon as possible to maintain warmth.
  • Limit alcohol - while a hot toddy might feel warming, alcohol actually lowers your core body temperature.

Remember, staying warm is not just about comfort but also about your health, as it helps prevent cold-related illnesses and your overall welfare.
